Indian Domestic Cricketers Set for Major Pay Raise: Could Earn up to INR 1 Crore in Ranji Trophy Season

Indian Domestic Cricketers – Ranji Trophy : Indian domestic cricketers have long been the backbone of the country’s cricketing prowess, yet their remuneration has often lagged behind the glitz and glamour of the international arena. However, a significant change is on the horizon as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) contemplates a substantial increase in pay for these unsung heroes.

Let’s have a look into more details :Indian Domestic Cricketers – Ranji Trophy

According to recent reports, the BCCI is mulling over a plan to double, or even triple, the earnings of domestic cricketers during the Ranji Trophy season. If implemented, players could potentially earn between INR 75 lakh to INR 1 crore per annum, depending on their participation in Ranji matches.

Current Payment Structure

Currently, the BCCI pays domestic players a daily fee based on their experience in Ranji Trophy matches. For instance, those with over 40 matches receive INR 60,000 per day, while players with 21 to 40 matches earn INR 50,000 per day. Similarly, those with 20 or fewer matches receive INR 40,000 per day. Additionally, reserves in these matches earn INR 30,000, INR 25,000, and INR 20,000, respectively.

The proposed hike in remuneration is aimed at incentivizing domestic players to actively participate in red ball cricket, particularly the prestigious Ranji Trophy. With the allure of lucrative earnings, players are more likely to prioritize domestic competitions, thereby strengthening the foundation of Indian cricket.

Impact on Player Participation

In recent years, concerns have been raised about players prioritizing other formats over traditional red ball cricket, often citing injury risks. However, with the promise of higher pay, the BCCI hopes to mitigate such concerns and foster a culture of commitment to domestic cricket.

This move aligns with the BCCI’s broader objective of promoting red ball cricket in the country. Earlier initiatives, such as the Test Cricket Incentive Scheme, aimed to reward players for their participation in Test cricket. Now, with the potential pay raise for domestic cricketers, the board seeks to further bolster the red ball format.

While the immediate implementation of the proposed pay hike remains uncertain, discussions are underway, and there is a growing consensus among stakeholders regarding the need for increased remuneration. With the support of the cricketing community and the BCCI’s commitment to fostering domestic talent, Indian domestic cricketers may soon see a significant boost in their earnings.

As discussions continue and plans take shape, the prospect of Indian domestic cricketers earning up to INR 1 crore during the Ranji Trophy season signals a new era of recognition and reward for these unsung heroes of Indian cricket. With the promise of enhanced financial incentives, players are poised to reaffirm their commitment to domestic cricket, laying the groundwork for a brighter future for the sport in India.
