Did Liverpool overpay for Mo Salah?

Mohamed Salah is without a doubt the best player in the world right now. The Egyptian forward has started the season in red-hot form, and has scored six goals in seven games for Liverpool so far this season. As a result, Jurgen Klopp’s men are in contention for the Premier League title right now.

The winger started out his career in the Premier League with Chelsea, but failed to make a consistent impact with the Blues. As a result, he was transferred to Fiorentina and subsequently to Roma. It was from the Italian capital club that Liverpool signed their star player.

They made the deal in 2017 for £44 million, which was a club record at the time. While all fans across the world would have believed that Liverpool overpaid at the time, his growth over the four years at Merseyside has made the transfer look like a bargain.

Salah has won the Premier League Golden Boot twice in four years with Liverpool, and has lifted the Premier League, Champions League, Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup with them.

Right now, Salah is arguably one of the most valuable players in the world and a transfer for him would easily cost upwards of £100 million. The left-footed winger is in his physical prime, and will be vital for the season that lies ahead. And his current form shows that he has truly unlocked the potential that he once had when he was playing in the Premier League with Chelsea.
