Manchester United to let go of Argentinian pair; Odion Ighalo’s loan deal expires at the end of January

The Argentinian pair of Marcos Rojo and backup goalkeeper Sergio Romero are on their way out of Manchester United as confirmed by manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer himself.

Boca Juniors are reportedly planning to sign Rojo on a long-term deal, but are not willing to pay up for the player. They want to either have the club terminate his contract immediately so that the player can leave, (since he hasn’t featured this season in the first place) or to sign him as a free agent in the summer.

Sergio Romero joined Manchester United in 2015 from Sampdoria, and has since gone on to become one of the best backup goalkeepers in the Premier League over the last five years. With his days at United coming to an end, he could finally be a team’s first choice between the sticks.

Dean Henderson’s emergence, and brilliant loan spell at Sheffield United last season made him a key prospect for United’s future. The English keeper has replaced Romero as United’s number 2, filling in for David De Gea as and when required.

Both players have less than six months remaining on their contracts, and their deals will not be extended by the club. If no bid comes by for either of them in January, they will have to depart as free agents at the end of the current season.

Moreover, Odion Ighalo will also return to Chinese club Shenhua at the end of January, since his loan deal expires. The Nigerian was signed as a backup striker last year, and his loan deal was then extended to cover the first half of this season.

The striker has managed to score 5 goals and provide a solitary assist in 23 appearances for the Premier League club, and has fulfilled his role well.
