Zoom to open R&D centre in Singapore and plan to hire hundreds of engineers

Zoom Video Communications Inc is going to enlarge its presence in Singapore by starting a research and development centre and also they are willing to hire hundreds of engineers immediately for the new projects.

The company has informed that they are also going to double its data centre capacity in the country. In the month of August, the San Jose, California-based company had launched the Singapore data centre which is the first in Southeast Asia.

The video conferencing company has seen an inclination in the graph of its user count in this year. Due to coronavirus and lockdowns, many schools and companies have agreed to work from home facility. Millions of students and workers are using this video conference platform during this situation.

Velchamy Sankarlingam, president of product and engineering for Zoom said, “We plan to immediately hire employees”. The company stated that it would select the new centres as for the remote work mode for the pandemic.

In recent years Singapore has been trying to lure the big tech firms – like Facebook, Chinese tech giant Tencent and Alibaba, Alphabet’s Google – to the country to empower the economic growth.

Previously Zoom has informed that they have a plan to hire engineers and sales staff from Singapore and currently they have more than 3,800 employees globally. In this year the share price has climbed to 500%. Zoom warned that in the next year, margins would remain in the pressure because of its huge free user base, to maintain the growth, which makes it hard to offset a spike in costs.
