The wait is finally over for fans who missed the theatrical run. Youth was released on 16 April 2026 on Netflix. The Tamil coming-of-age romantic comedy, which became one of the biggest surprises at the box office this year, is now available for streaming worldwide. With stellar performances from Ken Karunas, Devadarshini Chetan, and Suraj Venjaramoodu, the film has already captured the hearts of audiences across South India.

After its theatrical run, Youth is set to release on the streaming platform Netflix. The film began streaming from April 16, 2026. It is available in Tamil along with dubbed versions in Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Hindi, making it accessible to a wider audience.

The post-theatrical digital and satellite rights were acquired by Netflix and Vijay Television.

The Story of Youth

To his parents’ dismay, teen Praveen devotes himself to finding romance over studying — but dating and heartbreak teach him what real love truly is. The story follows Praveen, a 15-year-old boy navigating the early stages of adolescence. As he approaches the end of his school years, he becomes determined to experience what he believes is true love before leaving school. How did his irresponsible behaviour affect his mother (Devadarshini) and his father (Suraj Venjaramoodu)? How did Praveen realise his mistakes and decide to be responsible and sincere? Forms the rest of the story.

Box Office Success

As of mid-April 2026, the film had a commendable worldwide gross of approximately ₹70.09 crore. The domestic box office results showed exceptional strength because the film generated over ₹51 crore in net revenue and about ₹58.69 crore in total gross earnings. The overseas markets added ₹11.40 crore to the overall box office revenue. Ken Karunas made his directorial debut with Youth, which later became the highest-grossing film of the 2026 Kollywood box office. Made on a modest ₹6-7 crore budget, the film exceeded all expectations.

Critical Reception

Youth received positive reviews from critics. Avinash Ramachandran of Cinema Express and The New Indian Express gave 3/5 stars and wrote, “But just as most of us look at our own past with rose-tinted glasses, we can extend the same to Youth simply because we know that the outside world won’t be easy for these kids, and for now… let them have this”. Janani K of India Today gave 3/5 stars and wrote, “Youth is not a film that digs deep or asks difficult questions. It is a breezy, affectionate drama about teenagers who are unserious about life until life gets serious with them.”

Standout Performances by Devadarshini Chetan and Suraj Venjaramoodu

Devadarshini and Suraj Venjaramoodu are the pillars of this effective teen-com. Suraj Venjaramoodu and Devadarshini, in the roles of middle-class parents delivered a first-rate performance. Both of them excelled in generating fun and emotional sequences as well. Credit also goes to how perfectly Devadarshini and Suraj Venjaramoodu have been cast as Praveen’s parents.

Unlike their lives being shown entirely through Praveen’s POV, the film is careful enough to give them their own space and eccentricities. More than just being a father or a mother, the both of them come across as real, flawed people with their own shortcomings. They’re not just antagonising forces for Praveen to rebel against but they work just as well as fully developed characters living with their own main character energy.

Youth marks the directorial debut of Ken Karunas, son of popular actor Karunas, who also headlines the film. Before turning director, Ken worked as an assistant director to Dhanush on films like Vaathi, Thiruchitrambalam, and Raayan. He also appeared in notable Tamil films including Asuran alongside Dhanush and Viduthalai Part 2. With Youth, Ken has taken on multiple responsibilities as director, lead actor, writer, and even playback singer.
