Carol Danvers Is Missing From Doomsday: Marvel’s Smartest Power Play?

Picture the Avengers facing a world-ending threat while their strongest hero sits it out. That’s the situation with Avengers: Doomsday, and Marvel fans have noticed. According to The Direct, the omission looks deliberate, and the reason makes sense.

Who Is Missing, and Why It Matters?

Carol Danvers is arguably the MCU’s most powerful hero. She was a US Air Force pilot who gained cosmic abilities from the Space Stone’s energy. Powers like hers can break a story. Both of her solo films had to find ways to level the playing field, and Avengers: Endgame largely sidelined her too.

The Real Reason: Protecting Doom

The villain is the story here. A lot is riding on Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, and a fight he can’t handle in his first outing would deflate him. If Carol unleashed her Binary form on a Doom who is still gathering strength, the fight could end too fast. Keeping her away lets Doom build into a credible threat.

It’s also worth remembering that The Marvels seemed to set Carol up for a bigger role. Marvel apparently had second thoughts and kept both her and Monica out.

Secret Wars Could Be Her Payoff

Doom looks like a slow-burn villain. He appears trustworthy at first, then drops the act once he has what he needs to reshape the multiverse. That could lead to a Battleworld-style showdown, and in Secret Wars the heroes will have to fight back with everything they have.

That’s where Carol comes in. With the gloves off, she can finally cut loose on Doom’s stronghold, and the wait would make that moment hit harder.
