A small color change on a piece of promo art has Marvel fans asking whether Yelena is about to leave her sister’s shadow.

The Art That Got Fans Talking
Marketing for Avengers: Doomsday keeps rolling, and a fresh batch of promotional art spotlights several characters, including Doctor Doom, Captain America and Gambit. Each piece uses a graphic tied to the hero, like stars and stripes for Cap and a playing card for Gambit.
Yelena Belova’s art stands out because it uses the spider-style Black Widow logo. That symbol has long belonged to her sister, Natasha Romanoff.
Yelena’s Journey So Far
Yelena has never had it easy when it comes to identity. Here’s how she got here:
- Thunderbolts*: she turned over a new leaf after years as a mercenary and helped save New York from The Void.
- Leading the New Avengers: the natural next step for her.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day: she was known as the new Black Widow, carrying on her sister’s mantle.
Interestingly, Doomsday merchandise has so far referred to her only by her name, with no code name attached. This new art at least acknowledges she has one.

What Is the White Widow?
In the comics, Natasha and Yelena didn’t grow up as sisters. Both were trained in the Red Room, but Yelena could never escape Natasha’s shadow. Instead of copying her rival, she created her own persona: the White Widow.
The idea fits her MCU arc well. She spent years working for the Red Room, then found a group of people going through similar struggles and realized she could want more for herself. Now she leads a team and faces a motivated Doctor Doom.
Why the White Background Might Be a Clue
Black has always accompanied the logo in the past, so a white backdrop doesn’t feel accidental. It could be a nod to Natasha’s white costume from Black Widow. But many fans see it as pointing to Yelena’s own future.
If the theory is right, Yelena may realize mid-film that the Black Widow name doesn’t fit how she tackles problems. Switching to White Widow would also give Natasha a final send-off alongside the remaining original Avengers, whose time may be ending after Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars.
Remember, though: this is a theory based on art, not an announcement. For more on the character, see Yelena’s Wikipedia page.
