There’s something incredibly refreshing about a legend who can laugh at himself. Rajinikanth — the man whose name alone fills cinema halls across India — recently opened up about a moment that shook him to his core. And honestly? It’s the most relatable thing he’s ever said.
Rajinikanth: The Incident That Crushed Rajinikanth’s Ego
At a special event celebrating the 70th birthday of Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Thalaivar recalled how he had once been reluctant to join the spiritual leader for a tour of his ashram, fearing he’d cause a commotion among the crowd.
His reasoning was simple — he’s Rajinikanth. Surely thousands of fans would rush toward him the moment he stepped out.
“I thought naturally people would be there, recognise me, shout my name, ask for a photo, and stuff. I also saw many people from Tamil Nadu,” he recalled.

Despite thousands gathered at the premises, not a single person looked at him, let alone asked for a photo or autograph. “I have met many politicians and industrialists, but this incident crushed my ego,” the Padma Vibhushan awardee admitted.
In true Rajinikanth style, he kept his sense of humor intact. When the guru assured him there would be no disturbance, Rajinikanth jokingly responded, “Idhar disturb ho gaya” — pointing to his head.
It’s the kind of self-awareness you rarely see in superstars of his magnitude, and it explains why fans love him beyond just his movies.
