One Name, One Superstar: Rajinikanth Celebrates 51 Years in Cinema on Dharman Sets

Half a century and one more year — Rajinikanth just marked a milestone few actors ever reach, and he chose to celebrate it exactly where he belongs: on a film set, surrounded by his team.

How the Milestone Was Celebrated

The Dharman production team shared a video of the superstar cutting a cake with his cast and crew, captioning the moment “51 Years. One Name, One Superstar.” It’s a simple, heartfelt gesture that speaks to just how deeply rooted Rajinikanth remains in the industry that made him a household name across India.

The journey began on August 15, 1975, when Rajinikanth made his acting debut in the Kamal Haasan-led Apoorva Raagangal. He started in supporting and antagonist roles before rising to become one of Indian cinema’s most enduring superstars — a rare 51-year arc very few actors anywhere in the world can claim.

What’s Next for the Superstar

Dharman has had a bumpy road to the screen, with Sundar C originally attached before Cibi Chakaravarthi and later Ashwath Marimuthu took over directorial duties. The team recently began the film’s second shooting schedule, with Anirudh Ravichander composing music and the Anbariv duo choreographing action sequences.

Beyond Dharman, Rajinikanth has a packed slate ahead, including Jailer 2 — releasing October 15, 2026, with Mithun Chakraborty, Vidya Balan, and a rumored Hrithik Roshan cameo — plus a tentatively titled reunion project with longtime collaborator Kamal Haasan.
