WhatsApp Officially Launches Dedicated App for Apple iPads

Meta has launched a dedicated WhatsApp app for Apple iPads, now available for download via the App Store. Designed for the larger screen of the iPad, the app takes advantage of the multitasking features in iPadOS and is compatible with accessories like the Apple Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.

It’s worth mentioning that WhatsApp for iPad isn’t a standalone app, though. Instead, it acts as a connected companion to the one on your main phone. To get started, launch the App Store on your iPad and select the WhatsApp Messenger app. When you open the app, it will display a QR code. Open WhatsApp on your phone and select Linked Devices (in Settings on iPhone or the Menu on Android), and then use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code to connect your account. Once linked, your messages will sync between the two devices.

The iPad app retains all key messaging and calling functions, including support for Communities, Channels, and voice or video calls. Group calls can accommodate up to 32 participants. Like the iPhone version, the iPad app includes tabs for Updates (Status and Channels), Calls (with options for voice/video and joining via links), Communities, Chats, and Settings.

The interface resembles WhatsApp Web or desktop, displaying chats in a split view—recent conversations on the left and active chats on the right. You can also access Meta AI from the search bar in the Chats tab. For multitasking, the app is compatible with Split View, Slide Over, and Stage Manager—features accessible via the three-dot menu at the top, provided Split View is enabled in your device settings. Stage Manager functionality is limited to specific models, including:

• iPad Pro 12.9-inch (3rd gen or newer)
• iPad Pro 11-inch (1st gen or newer)
• iPad Air (5th gen)
• iPad Air 11-inch (M2 or newer)
• iPad Air 13-inch (M2 or newer)

The app also enhances productivity with full support for accessories like the Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil.
