US Warplanes Shot Down

Iran claimed responsibility for shooting down two US warplanes. Two American crewmembers were rescued and one airman remains missing after an F-15E Strike Eagle went down over Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad provinces and an A-10 Warthog crashed into the Gulf, according to US media reports.

Iran said a “new advanced defence system” downed the aircraft, directly contradicting earlier US claims that Iran’s air defences had been destroyed. Crowds in Tehran celebrated what Iranian authorities described as a significant military success.

Israel Bombs Lebanon’s Litani River Bridges

Israel followed through on threats to blow up two main bridges over the Litani River in Lebanon, as Israeli forces expanded their occupation in the south.

Lebanon’s government reported at least 23 people were killed, and the Israeli military said it has struck more than 3,500 targets across Lebanon since a resurgence in fighting with Hezbollah began on March 2. NPR

Escalation on Multiple Fronts

US-Israeli attacks hit two petrochemical plants in southern Iran’s Khuzestan province, and one person was killed in another strike on the Bushehr nuclear site. The UAE bore the brunt of Iran’s retaliatory attacks, saying it responded to 23 ballistic missiles and 56 drones in a single day.

Trump requested lawmakers approve a massive $1.5 trillion defence budget for 2027, as the US faces rising costs from the ongoing war with Iran and mounting global security commitments. Al Jazeera

The 2026 Iran war has now drawn in nine countries and displaced hundreds of thousands across the region, with the Strait of Hormuz blockade pushing global oil prices above $100 a barrel.
