Why Does Usha Nadkarni’s Son Live Separately?

The reason is surprisingly sweet. Usha Nadkarni’s son currently lives in Borivali with her brother, not because of any estrangement — but because of a small baby and a family decision that made complete practical sense.

In her own words, she explained that after her son got married, he was already living separately. Her brother, who had a 2BHK flat in Borivali, recently got it redeveloped into a 3BHK. When the couple had a baby, the brother invited the son to move in — a natural, loving family arrangement. “Chhota bachha sabko achha lagta hai,” she said warmly, making clear this was a joyful family choice, not distance.

She also revealed something touching — her son absolutely loves the non-veg food she makes, and the bond between them is clearly very much alive despite the separate living arrangements. Usha further shared that it was largely her family — her father, mother, and brother — who raised her son while she dedicated herself to her career.

Living Alone Since 1987 — Usha Nadkarni’s Daily Life

What makes Usha Nadkarni’s story truly remarkable is that she has been living completely alone since 1987 — nearly four decades of independent living. Her daily routine is wonderfully simple and grounding: she wakes up, makes breakfast, cooks, bathes, does bhagwaan ki puja, eats lunch, rests — and yes, admits to being happily addicted to Facebook.

She was completely candid about the early days, sharing that when she first moved to her apartment building alone, she used to get scared coming home late at night and would ask the watchman to accompany her upstairs. But decades later? Total peace. “Aadat ho gayi. Abhi nahi darti,” she said — a quiet testament to the resilience this woman carries in every chapter of her life.
