The facility will manufacture display driver chips for mobile phones, laptops, automobiles, PCs, and other devices with displays. This joint venture represents a critical step in Prime Minister Modi’s vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India). The collaboration between HCL, which brings decades of experience in hardware development and manufacturing, and Foxconn, a major electronics manufacturer and primary supplier to Apple, reflects increasing international trust in India’s semiconductor strategy.

The semiconductor industry is rapidly expanding across India, with world-class design facilities emerging in multiple states. Currently, over 270 academic institutions and 70 startups are actively working on semiconductor design technologies, with 20 chip designs already taped out at the Semi-Conductor Laboratory in Mohali.

The facility is expected to create over 3,500 direct jobs in semiconductor manufacturing, assembly, and testing roles.
