Untamed Season 2 Heads to Hawaii: Everything We Know About the Netflix Thriller’s Return

Netflix’s hit crime drama Untamed is trading Yosemite’s towering cliffs for Hawaii’s volcanic landscapes. After dominating global charts with 24.6 million views in its first week, the series has officially greenlit Season 2, with production set to begin in February 2026.

Quick Facts: Untamed Season 2

From Mountains to Paradise: What’s Changing

Special Agent Kyle Turner is leaving Yosemite’s granite cliffs for Hawaii’s diverse terrain. According to Production Weekly issue 1475, filming will run for nearly four months, concluding by June 1, 2026. This location shift represents more than scenery—it’s a creative decision to explore different cultural and geographical identities.

Co-creators Mark L. Smith and Elle Smith explained their vision: “Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating”.

The Hawaii setting means viewers can expect a diverse cast of native Hawaiian and Polynesian actors, enriching the show’s authenticity and cultural representation.

Why Season 2 Matters

Untamed wasn’t supposed to continue. Originally marketed as a limited series, the show’s explosive success—debuting at number one on Netflix’s global Top 10 with 24.6 million views—changed everything. Eric Bana’s gripping performance as the troubled investigator resonated with audiences worldwide, earning the series an 82% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

For streaming enthusiasts following Netflix’s latest hits, Untamed joins an elite roster. Similar to how Black Rabbit delivered high-stakes drama with A-list talent, Untamed proves Netflix’s commitment to premium thriller content.

What to Expect in Season 2

While plot details remain under wraps, Season 1 left Kyle Turner suspended from duty after exposing corruption within Yosemite’s law enforcement. His next case in Hawaii will likely challenge him both professionally and personally.

Lily Santiago, who plays Naya Vasquez, hinted at her hopes: “I would love for her to get called up to go to a different place, like bring me to a mountain in Hawaii. I’m hoping that it’s new murder, new location, wilderness challenges, and new things to learn.”

Possible Hawaiian filming locations include:

• Hawaii Volcanoes National Park – Active volcanic landscapes
• Haleakalā National Park – Dramatic crater environments
• Remote coastal regions – Tropical wilderness settings

The Netflix Thriller Renaissance

Untamed exemplifies Netflix’s expanding original content strategy for 2025-2026. With series like House of Guinness and upcoming titles proving the platform’s dominance in prestige television, viewers have unprecedented access to high-quality storytelling.

The show’s success also highlights Netflix’s skill in transforming limited series into franchises when audience demand justifies expansion—a strategy that’s reshaping streaming economics.
