A Case Nobody Wants to Touch

SonyLIV’s own announcement set the tone perfectly: “Some cases are solved. Some aren’t. Then there’s one case file nobody dares to touch!” That single line captures exactly why Unmadham has built such curiosity since its theatrical debut—this isn’t your standard procedural drama.

The Story at Its Core

Kunchacko Boban plays Shelly, a civil police officer disillusioned with routine duty and quietly chasing a dream of becoming a screenwriter. After stepping away from the force for a year to pursue that ambition, financial pressure pulls him back. A workplace mistake then gets him transferred to a remote station, where he stumbles upon a long-forgotten file tied to a young woman’s mysterious death.

What follows blurs the line between investigation and something far stranger, as the film weaves reality together with elements of superstition, keeping audiences guessing until the very end.

Behind the Camera

Unmadham OTT Release Date: When and Where to Watch Kunchacko Boban’s Gripping Mystery; Directed by Kiran Das and written by Shahi Kabir, Unmadham is bankrolled by Panorama Studios and T-Series Films, with producers Kumar Mangat Pathak and Abhishek Pathak—known for backing several successful Hindi productions, including the Drishyam franchise—lending significant industry weight to this Malayalam thriller. The film’s atmosphere is shaped further by Mujeeb Majeed’s music and Justin Varghese’s background score, while Arjun Sethu handles cinematography.

Why the Wait Was Worth It

Unmadham received a genuinely warm critical response following its July 31 theatrical release, which likely explains the demand driving this multi-language OTT rollout. Rather than restricting the film to a single regional audience, SonyLIV’s decision to stream it in five languages signals real confidence in its crossover appeal.

What to Expect on SonyLIV

Once live, subscribers can expect the complete theatrical experience: Kunchacko Boban’s understated, weary intensity as Shelly, Lijomol Jose’s pivotal supporting turn, and a slow-burn mystery that rewards patience over spectacle. Fans of investigative dramas laced with psychological tension will find plenty to sink into here.

Final Thoughts

With the Unmadham OTT release date now locked for September 4, this is the perfect moment to catch one of Malayalam cinema’s more intriguing recent thrillers from home. Whether you missed it in theatres or want a rewatch, Unmadham’s blend of investigation, superstition, and quiet human drama makes for a compelling streaming addition this September.
