What Is Chennai Love Story About?

At its heart, this is a story about healing in unexpected places. Nivi (Sri Gouri Priya) is all set to marry the man she loves, Ajay (Trigun), when he calls off the wedding at the very last moment, confessing his feelings for someone else. Devastated, Nivi’s friends whisk her away to Chennai hoping a change of scenery might help her move on — but the heartbreak follows her, and she slips into self-destructive habits trying to numb the pain.

Everything shifts when Steven Shankar (Kiran Abbavaram), an orphan chasing his dream of becoming a filmmaker, moves into her shared house. His presence initially irritates Nivi, but his quiet persistence and genuine warmth slowly begin to change her outlook on life. What follows is a tender, believable journey of two wounded people finding comfort in each other — and rediscovering what it means to fall in love again.

Why This Film Is Striking A Chord

Chennai Love Story has been praised for capturing the messiness of young heartbreak with honesty rather than melodrama. Rather than rushing the emotional arc, director Ravi Namburi lets Nivi’s healing unfold gradually, giving the romance room to feel earned rather than convenient. Combined with Kiran Abbavaram’s growing reputation for relatable, everyman roles, the film has already resonated strongly with younger audiences during its theatrical run.

Where To Watch Chennai Love Story

Marking its digital premiere, Chennai Love Story will stream exclusively on SonyLIV starting August 21, 2026. In a move aimed at reaching audiences well beyond Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the platform has confirmed the film will be available not just in Telugu, but dubbed in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam as well — a rollout that should widen its fanbase considerably.

Should You Watch It?

If you’re drawn to stories about second chances, quiet healing, and love that arrives when you least expect it, Chennai Love Story is worth adding to your watchlist. It’s less about grand romantic gestures and more about the small, sincere moments that rebuild a broken heart — the kind of film that lingers with you long after the credits roll.

With its multilingual release and a story built on genuine emotional depth, Chennai Love Story looks set to find an even bigger audience on OTT than it did in theatres. August 21 marks the beginning of that next chapter — don’t miss it.
