India cricket legend Rohit Sharma is all set to make his highly anticipated television debut — stepping off the pitch and onto the screen for the very first time with his own show on Sony Entertainment Television and SonyLIV. The announcement was made as part of Sony Pictures Networks India’s expansive festive-season content slate, with the show set to premiere in September 2026.

“We have announced a show with active India cricket star Rohit Sharma. And Rohit will start anchoring and presenting his own show on SET and SonyLIV in September,” said Gaurav Banerjee, Managing Director and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India.

How It Was Announced

India cricket team icon Rohit Sharma is set to make his entertainment debut on Sony platforms, marking the veteran opener’s first major step into mainstream television and digital entertainment beyond the cricket field. Sony Pictures Networks India launched a teaser campaign featuring Sharma across its broadcast and streaming platforms, building anticipation around what the network has described as one of its biggest entertainment launches of the year.

A high-energy and engaging teaser for the upcoming project was launched by Sony Pictures Networks India. The promotional clip centres on his famous on-field instruction about nobody roaming around in the garden during matches. Fans have quickly turned this witty remark into a massive viral sensation across various digital platforms.

The video shows fans asking Rohit to say his iconic line, where he was caught on the stump microphone saying, “Koi garden me nahi ghoomega” (no one will roam around in the garden). This happened during India’s Test match against England in February 2024 in Visakhapatnam.

In the teaser, Rohit playfully addresses the viral moment head-on. He said: “I became viral with just two lines. What will happen when my show comes out?” — a remark that suggests his full show will offer far more entertainment than the brief clips seen online.

Why This Matters For Indian Television

India and Mumbai Indians batter Rohit Sharma has launched a brand new show on the Sony platform. The right-handed batter is one of the most popular cricketers in the country, and the fans will now have the opportunity to watch the star batter on their television outside of the cricket field.

Rohit’s transition from the cricket pitch to the television screen is not entirely unprecedented in Indian sport — former cricketers have long found success as commentators, analysts and chat show guests — but fronting his own primetime show on one of India’s biggest networks represents a significant new chapter for the 39-year-old.

His personality, honed through years of post-match press conferences and team leadership, has already proven enormously popular beyond cricket, with his “garden” remark going viral globally. The Sony platform provides him with the ideal launchpad to convert that popularity into a full-fledged entertainment career.
