Family chaos meets covert operations in Netflix’s newest Korean comedy. Cha Tae Hyun and Uhm Ji Won are joining forces for the very first time on screen, and the premise alone promises a wild, heartfelt ride.

The Big Announcement

Netflix confirmed on August 6 that production is officially underway for “Two Cops and Five Kids,” unveiling a cast led by Cha Tae Hyun and Uhm Ji Won. The story follows a detective suddenly left solo-parenting five children after his wife departs on a mission disguised as a vacation — all while he juggles a career-defining promotion exam and gets unexpectedly pulled into taking down a criminal organization.

Meet the Family at the Center of It All

Cha Tae Hyun plays Dong Sik, a violent crimes detective and father of five preparing for a promotion exam. Uhm Ji Won plays Kyung Ah, his wife and a former police officer who spent the last decade largely raising their children solo before accepting a covert National Intelligence Service mission — hoping it’s her way back into law enforcement.

The five children rounding out this comedic family are Spring (Do Young Seo), Summer (Kim Na Eun), Autumn (Jung Han Sol), Winter (Sim Ji An), and April (Kim Ra Hee) — a playful naming convention that hints at the show’s warm, family-first tone.

Why This Pairing Matters

Cha Tae Hyun has long been a staple of Korean comedy, known for blending physical humor with genuine emotional beats, while Uhm Ji Won brings range across both drama and action roles. Their first-ever collaboration positions “Two Cops and Five Kids” as a promising blend of family comedy and espionage thriller — a genre mashup that has found renewed popularity in Korean streaming content, following in the tradition of ensemble family comedies rooted in Korean cinema’s long history of blending humor with heart.
