Sometimes a single word says more than a full character breakdown ever could. Ahead of its premiere, the cast of tvN’s occult romance “Spooky in Love” — Park Eun Bin, Yang Se Jong, and Ong Seong Wu — sat down to distill their characters into one defining keyword each, and the results offer a surprisingly intimate look at what’s driving this story.
A remake of the 2011 film “Spellbound,” the drama follows the chaotic dynamic between a ghost-seeing hotel heiress and a prosecutor terrified of the supernatural — a premise that blends horror, comedy, and romance in equal measure.
Park Eun Bin plays Cheon Yeo Ri, CEO of the country’s top luxury hotel and known to those around her as the “Reclusive Princess” for her gloves and careful avoidance of physical contact. Rather than picking a single keyword, she explained the reasoning behind her character’s isolation directly: Yeo Ri doesn’t wall herself off out of coldness, but to protect others — she carries a curse where anyone who touches her also begins seeing ghosts, making distance an act of self-sacrifice rather than detachment.
Yang Se Jong takes on Ma Kang Wook, a relentless prosecutor whose life is upended after a chance encounter with Yeo Ri thrusts him into the world of ghosts. His chosen keyword — “confrontation” — reflects a character arc built around facing uncomfortable truths, whether that’s solving cases through supernatural means, accepting his feelings for Yeo Ri, or coming to terms with his own fate.
Ong Seong Wu rounds out the trio as Kang Min Hwan, heir to a hotel empire with a gentle public image masking a deeper insecurity. His keyword, “lack,” hints at an emotional void that shapes the character’s choices throughout the series — a compelling setup for someone who, on paper, seems to have everything.

Occult romance as a genre blends supernatural stakes with emotional vulnerability, drawing from storytelling traditions similar to the broader supernatural fiction genre, where the unseen world often mirrors a character’s inner conflicts.
