The Whisper of Fire: A Dead Astrophysicist, a Volcano and a Twin Brother Who Won’t Stop Asking Questions

The Whisper of Fire: Series

What Is the Story About?

Netflix’s synopsis centres on Laura, a young astrophysicist whose body is found in Teide National Park. Her twin brother Mario, who has been battling cancer for a year, and Civil Guard Sergeant Candela Oramas each start their own investigation. Caught between science and faith, reason and mystery, every answer raises a new question: how many secrets was Laura hiding?

Who’s in the Cast?

Five leads are confirmed: Inma Cuesta, Alejandro García, Iván Pellicer, Zoe Bonafonte and Alicia Armenteros. Several are familiar Netflix faces. Cuesta appeared in Berlin, the Money Heist spin-off, and García and Armenteros both starred in The Crystal Cuckoo. Guillermo Bedward, Nico Romero and Jaime Zataraín also join the cast.

A Familiar Author Returns

This is the fourth time Netflix has adapted one of Castillo’s novels, after The Snow Girl, The Soul Game and The Crystal Cuckoo. That track record is a good sign for fans of twisty Spanish mysteries.

Why Tenerife Matters?

Setting a murder mystery in and around a volcanic national park adds atmosphere on its own. For a closer look at the landscape that inspires the story, see Teide National Park on Wikipedia.
