When the director behind one of Korea’s biggest crime franchises pivots to the occult, you pay attention. Now add two powerhouse actors to the mix, and Modub is already shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Korean films in the pipeline.
What Is “Modub”?
Modub is an upcoming Korean occult film built around the theme of knots — a concept that’s already generating serious buzz within the film industry. Mysterious, symbolic, and steeped in dark energy, the premise alone signals something far removed from your average genre thriller.
The Outlaws Cast and Crew at a Glance
| Name | Role | Known For |
|---|---|---|
| Yoo Hae Jin | Lead (in talks) | Exhuma, The Outlaws |
| Yim Si Wan | Lead (in talks) | Summer Strike, Misaeng |
| Kang Yoon Sung | Director | The Outlaws, Big Bet, Low Life |
Both Yoo Hae Jin’s agency VAST Entertainment and Yim Si Wan’s agency THEBLACKLABEL confirmed that the actors received offers and are positively reviewing their participation. Nothing is locked in yet, but “positively reviewing” in Korean entertainment industry language is about as close to a yes as you can get before ink hits paper.
Why Director Kang Yoon Sung Makes This a Big Deal
Director Kang Yoon Sung built his reputation with the blockbuster crime film The Outlaws and followed it up with the Disney+ series Big Bet and Low Life. He has a proven knack for building tension and crafting morally complex characters — skills that translate brilliantly into the occult genre. Watching him shift from gritty crime to supernatural dread is exactly the kind of creative pivot that produces something genuinely special.
When Does Filming Begin?
Modub is scheduled to begin filming at the end of August 2026. While a release date hasn’t been announced yet, production starting in late August puts it firmly on the radar for 2027. soompi
