Few British comedies have as loyal a fanbase as The Inbetweeners, and the new Netflix movie is already giving fans plenty to cheer about, even while still filming. Fresh set photos have confirmed a returning favourite, revealed a very famous car and left us with a few delightful mysteries.

Tara Is Back

The biggest news is that Hannah Tointon is reprising her role as Tara. Longtime fans will remember her from the show’s third and final series, where she was Simon’s girlfriend and the person who, at least for a while, pulled him away from his long obsession with Carli D’Amato.

Her return is a welcome surprise, especially since Emily Head has already been confirmed as Carli. That raises a fun question: is a Simon-shaped love triangle about to reignite? In the set photos, Tointon appears in a dark coat, floral scarf, jeans and Converse. In several shots, she seems to have a baby bump. Whether that is a major plot point or a red herring is unknown, but it is certainly an unexpected twist.

The Cinquecento Lives

Any fan will recognise this immediately: the yellow Fiat Cinquecento with its mismatched red passenger door is back, still carrying its unfortunate rear bumper sticker. It was photographed on set and later being loaded onto a trailer ramp.

Its return may explain another curious detail. One suburban house on the street has a jagged hole in the brickwork beneath its bay window. Given the car’s track record, we have our suspicions about who is responsible.

An Arrest and a Night Shoot

The biggest scene captured appears to be an arrest. A person in a brown jacket and cords was pictured being led away by two police officers in hi-vis jackets, looking every bit as dazed as you would hope. Their identity is still unclear, though one guess is actor Osian Davies. Whether it follows a car-meets-house incident remains to be seen.

The night shoot, held on a quiet residential cul-de-sac, drew a sizeable crowd of onlookers, and a large overhead lighting rig turned the street into a fully lit set. Other photos show filming in a blue Audi and, not for the first time, Simon is naked. Some traditions never change.

What We Already Know?

Original creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris are back to write and direct. The core four, Simon Bird, James Buckley, Joe Thomas and Blake Harrison, all return. Dominic Applewhite and Martin Trenaman are back as Simon’s brother and dad. New faces include Marina Bye, Hannah Cruz, Lisanne Falk, Marama Corlett, Tadhg Murphy and Vanessa Eng. Earlier set photos showed a massive church wedding that appears to be Jay’s.

With production running until November 7 and no date set by Netflix, a global release in 2027 seems likely. For comedy fans, it is a nostalgic reunion worth waiting for. Learn more about the original series on The Inbetweeners Wikipedia page.
