Season 3 Is Reportedly Already in the Works

While Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a Season 3 renewal, signs point strongly in that direction. Dermot Mulroney, who plays Jed Banks, revealed on a podcast earlier this year that writers were already in the room developing new material, with filming expected to begin in the fall. He also teased that while Season 1 stayed close to the source novel, future seasons are set to go further off-script creatively.

Why the Move Away From North Carolina?

The bigger story here isn’t the plot — it’s the production. The Hunting Wives has filmed its first two seasons in and around Charlotte, using local spots like the Azalea Retreat on Lake Norman and Downtown Mooresville to bring the fictional town of Maple Brook, Texas to life. But recent changes to how North Carolina’s film incentive program is funded mean the state can no longer guarantee budget certainty the way it once did, prompting the production to look elsewhere.

Producer Joan Cunningham confirmed the likely relocation to Georgia in an email obtained by local news, explaining that incentive funding plays a key role in season budgeting, and without it, continuing to shoot in North Carolina isn’t sustainable. North Carolina Governor Josh Stein also addressed the departure, emphasizing the importance of the state’s film industry to local jobs and investment.

Not the First Big Departure

This wouldn’t be the first major production to leave North Carolina behind. Netflix’s own “Outer Banks” relocated filming to South Carolina back in 2019, and other shows like Showtime’s “Homeland” and Cinemax’s “Banshee” have similarly moved production out of the Charlotte area over the years as the state’s incentive landscape has shifted.
