US viewers should note the series hasn’t been on Netflix since it briefly appeared back in February 2015, so fans there will need to keep checking future streaming updates for any domestic rights deal.

Why This 2001 The Tick Series Still Has A Cult Following?

For those unfamiliar, The Tick is the gold standard of superhero parody. Based on Ben Edlund’s indie comic and following the success of the 1994 animated series, Fox brought the character to life in 2001 with Warburton in the lead role.

Warburton, known for his work on Seinfeld and Family Guy, brought a perfect mix of booming confidence and childlike wonder to the nearly indestructible, amnesiac hero. He was joined by a memorable supporting cast playing his anxious sidekick, a vain rival hero, and a sharp-tongued fellow crimefighter.

So why did it only run for nine episodes? Long before shows like The Boys made satirizing superheroes mainstream, The Tick was already doing it brilliantly, but Fox struggled to market a show with expensive costumes and a hefty production budget back in 2001. It was cancelled too soon, cementing its legendary cult status, a fate later echoed by its 2016 Amazon reboot as well.
