A few breadcrumbs fuel the buzz. Reeves briefly posted, then deleted, a July 2025 social media tease reading “Hugo as Hugo,” which some took as a sign the name floated through the script. The Rival Rumors

Not everyone agrees. Reports have suggested Dance is playing Christopher Dent, Harvey Dent’s abusive father, another character never seen in live-action Batman. Scarlett Johansson has been linked to Gilda Dent, Harvey’s fiancée in the comics.

The rumor mill has also changed direction before. Sebastian Stan was long expected as Harvey Dent but was later reported as Victor Zsasz, with Brian Tyree Henry now possibly in the Dent role. Stan himself told Deadline he played “many roles” in the film, which only muddies things further.

The most appealing reading is that these rumors aren’t separate villains at all. The Dent family’s status in Gotham society, Zsasz as hired muscle, and even Strange could all be parts of a Court of Owls conspiracy. None of it is confirmed, but every thread keeps leading back to the same place.
