Chinese smartphone manufacturer, VIVO has pulled out of IPL 2020 title sponsorship deal due to the increasing India-China tension. VIVO was supposed to pay BCCI Rs 440 crores for each edition of IPL. So it was a massive blow for the Indian cricket board.
Since then BCCI has been on the lookout for a new title sponsor of IPL. BCCI set a deadline till 14th August 5 pm for the interested companies to submit their Expression Of Interest (EOI).
According to a report by Inside Sport, Tata Sons, Indian cricket jersey sponsor Byju’s, Reliance Jio, Patanjali and Unacademy are the only 5 companies to have submitted the EOI for the title sponsorship of IPL 2020.
Tata Sons are most likely to win the race for the IPL 2020 title sponsorship deal. This is not only because of their financial power but also because Tata is the largest Indian home-grown brand. Although, the final announcement on this matter will be made on 18th August.
BCCI has already declared that: “it is clarified that BCCI shall not be obliged to award the Rights to the third party which indicates willingness to pay the highest fees in the course of discussions/negotiations with BCCI after submitting an EOI. BCCI’s decision in this regard will also depend on a number of other relevant factors, including but not limited to, the manner in which the third party intends to exploit the Rights and the potential impact of the same on brand IPL as also the fan/ viewer experience, which will be examined/evaluated by BCCI in the course of discussions/negotiations with interested third parties who submit an EOI.”
Tata Group has been doing a lot for Indian sports. They support different sports like Indian wrestling, football and tennis.
So, Tata Sons are most likely to get the nod. They have offered Rs 250-275 crores for the IPL 2020 title sponsorship deal.
