The Tata Group has announced a landmark $2.9 billion (₹26,392 crore) investment across Karnataka, spanning semiconductors, IT infrastructure, aviation, renewable energy, and defence manufacturing. Tata Advanced Systems Chairman Banmali Agrawala met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on February 26 to formalise the commitment.

Tata Group Karnataka Expansion: Key Projects

Project	Company	Investment / Scale

TCS Sattva Knowledge Point	TCS	1.75 million sq ft (Yeshwanthpur)
TCS 360 Business Park	TCS	1.4 million sq ft (Electronic City)
AI & Innovation Labs	TCS	Expansion across Bengaluru
Southern Aviation MRO Hub	Air India + Tata Advanced Systems	$455 million
Semiconductor Assembly & Test	Tata Electronics	Expansion (timeline: 2 years)
Renewable Energy	Tata Power	2,500 MW capacity
H125 Helicopter Assembly Line	Tata Advanced Systems + Airbus	New facility
Hospitality	IHCL Hotels	New properties

Why This Is a Transformational Moment for Karnataka

Tata Group already employs over 1.36 lakh people across 27 Tata companies in Karnataka and has contributed more than $5 billion in prior investments to the region. This new $2.9 billion commitment builds on that foundation across six distinct sectors simultaneously — a breadth of investment rarely seen from a single conglomerate in one state.

The TCS Whitefield campus at 25,000 seats is the headline IT play, but the $455 million southern aviation MRO hub — India’s first in the south — is arguably the more strategically significant announcement, setting up Karnataka as a defence and aerospace manufacturing corridor alongside its existing IT identity.

Tata Electronics expanding semiconductor assembly and test facilities within two years aligns directly with India’s semiconductor mission and complements the HCL-Foxconn OSAT facility in Noida announced earlier this year.

The 2,500 MW renewable energy project via Tata Power positions the group for India’s green energy transition while securing long-term power supply for its own expanding operations. Collectively, these projects will generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs across skill levels — from IT engineers to aviation technicians to manufacturing workers.
