Tata Curvv Base Model Spotted Testing Alongside Hyryder

The compact SUV market is emerging as the most sought-after segment for automakers, boasting a lineup of nine contenders. Notably, both of the indigenous Indian brands are currently absent from this competitive space. Tata Motors, however, is gearing up to enter the fray with its Curvv coupe SUV, and recent sightings of test mules in Pune have provided a closer look.

The Upcoming Tata Curvv Base Model

The Tata Curvv base model has been spotted testing for the first time, revealing features distinct from the higher trims previously seen with alloy wheels. In this particular test mule, steel wheels adorned with stylish wheel covers are evident. The spy shots, courtesy of automotive enthusiast Vikram Patil in Pune City, showcase the presence of flush door handles that pop out horizontally. While the driver’s side door handle appears to be malfunctioning in this prototype, such issues are expected to be rectified in production versions.

Despite being a base model, the Tata Curvv boasts several features. LED DRLs at the front, likely to double as turn indicators, contribute to its distinctive look. The front fascia is anticipated to resemble the Nexon facelift, while the rear will feature its own unique identity. The base model test mule includes single-pod LED reflector headlights similar to the Nexon.

Additional features on this base model test mule include a lack of sensors on the windshield for auto headlights and wipers, as well as the absence of a rear defogger and washer. The coupe shape of the Curvv suggests raindrops won’t adhere to the rear glass, although manual cleaning may be required for dust and muck. The Tata Curvv is nearing its launch, expected in 2024, and will compete with rivals such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, MG Astor, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Citroen C3 Aircross, and Toyota Hyryder.

Known for its road presence, Tata Motors aims to replicate this success with the Curvv SUV. Despite sharing similarities with the Nexon in terms of exteriors, interiors, and features, the Curvv is anticipated to bring unique offerings, including a panoramic sunroof and a Heads-Up Display (HUD).

Electrically operated front seats and a Level-2 ADAS suite are expected additions to the feature-rich Nexon. The powertrain options are likely to include a higher-tuned 1.2L turbo petrol engine and a 1.5L diesel engine. Additionally, a Tata Curvv EV might launch alongside its internal combustion engine counterpart, with the introduction of Tata’s 1.5L GDI turbo petrol at a later date.
