Violence in Wistron iPhone plant at Karnataka

Wistron, the Taiwanese iPhone maker thinking about whether it should continue its development plans in India or not. As per the report, some of the workers ransacked the Karnataka facility. Company insiders are suspecting this incident as a planned conspiracy to rob the plant. This firm was situated in the Kolar district. The iPhone manufacturing plant had previously informed that they would hire 25,000 employees at the end of next year. But now this seems uncertain.

The firm has nearly 12,000 employees, whereas only 1,200 are permanent employees, and the rest were hired on a contractual basis. Recently the third-party iPhone manufacturer had announced an investment to increase the manufacturing capacity in Karnataka.

The firm said “We are deeply shocked by the events at our Narasapura facility. We follow the law and are supporting the authorities with their investigation. The safety and wellbeing of our team members are always our top priority.”

“We have teams on the ground and immediately launched an investigation at Wistron’s Narasapura facility in India. Our teams are in touch with local authorities, and we’re offering our full support to their probe,” said Apple.

According to some inside sources, the company refused many due payments of several employees, who didn’t work every day demanded full salaries and advance overtime dues. Some employees got into an argument about the wages with the HR team on Friday night. At that time, the company assured them to pay their salaries by Monday morning. After a few hours, a group of people came into the place with sticks & rods and started to destroy the property.

It was reported that the district administration reacted very slowly and also the police reached the spot after a few hours of the rampage started. The state government points this as a bad light spotting on the state.

  • [Report] Future iPhone models to feature Antennas and Touch ID in the display

[Report] Future iPhone models to feature Antennas and Touch ID in the display

A recent report has come out from Apple saying that the future iPhones will feature Antennas and Touch ID in the display. If this happens, then it will be definitely a huge leap in terms of iPhones’ connectivity and security as well. Apple is looking to add the antenna to increase the strength of the device’s WiFi and cellular connectivity. As of now, Apple has not told anything regarding the placement of the antenna in the display. But we can expect thinner bezels and notches for it.

Apart from the antenna, an in-display fingerprint scanner will be there. If Apple will use such in-display fingerprint scanning technology, then the display quality will have to be improved. So, we can expect a different and improved display panel from Apple in its future iPhone models. The future iPhones might feature even larger screens to fit the touch ID fingerprint scanner in it. Apart from it, Apple has also applied for such patents that cover using these layers to house an RF antenna into the display. Apple has described all these things in its recent patent titled, “Display Integratable Hybrid Transparent Antenna.”

    Apple

    The patent application states,

“Today’s wireless systems (smartwatches or other devices with a predominant display feature, for example) are striving to achieve an edge-to-edge display with a smaller bezel or bezel-less display solution. Especially for wearable devices, such as smartwatches, smart glasses, or smart health-related monitoring devices, the display is small and the number of wireless radios (e.g., Bluetooth, GPS, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G/LTE, FM, and so forth) that need to be supported and the related antennas is increasing.”

  • Apple starts working on its own Cellular Modem for future iPhones instead of depending on Qualcomm

Apple starts working on its own Cellular Modem for future iPhones instead of depending on Qualcomm

As per a major report, Apple has started building its own cellular modems. Reports state that Johny Srouji, Apple’s senior vice president of hardware technologies, made this major announcement during a town hall meeting with Apple employees. Apple has been too reliant on Qualcomm and Intel to get the cellular modem. The US tech giant was already making its own SoC but had to depend on others to get the cellular modems. That dependency will soon cease to exist as they finally kicked off the development of its modems.

“This year, we kicked off the development of our first internal cellular modem which will enable another key strategic transition. Long-term strategic investments like these are a critical part of enabling our products and making sure we have a rich pipeline of innovative technologies for our future,” he said.

Apple to use Qualcomm 5G modems through 2023, Court documents revealed

Building an in-house modem will save Apple a huge amount of cost and make them more self-sufficient. This move away from Qualcomm technology will only benefit Apple. Though, it might be a big setback for Qualcomm who records around 11% of the total revenue from the US tech giant. After this news broke out, Qualcomm shares sank as much as 6.3 percent in the market.

A move towards self-dependency has been underway since some time now. To achieve this objective, Apple acquired a large part of Intel’s modem business in July of 2019 for $1 billion or roughly Rs. 7,400 crore. This deal concluded just two months after resolving a long-running dispute with Qualcomm in April. The agreement between Apple and Qualcomm had a six-year licensing pact through which Qualcomm charges license fees on wireless patents it owns. T

his multiyear chipset supply agreement and Intel’s staff gave Apple an ample amount of space to build their own cellular modem. These modems have a huge importance in today’s market. They enable connection to the internet via cellular networks. Thus, without them, a possibility of 5G smartphones won’t exist. Apple used Intel parts for a few years and currently, their 5G iPhone models use parts from Qualcomm. This transition will help Apple to decrease its operating cost and thus boosting their profit numbers in the future. A date for Apple’s cellular modem to hit the ground is yet to be announced.

Apple to launch a new wearable blood pressure device, patent application revealed

Apple to make a new step regarding the health and fitness-related for its devices. From an early age, Apple has been actively improving in this issue. Like, if we consider the watches from Apple, the recent ones always have some kind of health monitoring technologies, such as heart rate monitoring, and many more. As per a recently revealed patent from Apple, the company has stated that it will launch a device only for checking blood pressure. In short, Apple will launch a device with a major blood pressure monitoring system.

First of all, it is not an Apple watch. You can wear it on your wrist just like a watch by which it can monitor your blood pressure. As it is not a watch, there will be no watch-like interface. In place of it, this device comes with a control unit. As per Apple, this control unit can offer a user interface and will offer its user watch-related functionalities as well. The main motive of this device is to monitor and show the blood pressure of the user.

The blood pressure cuff of it will measure the vector data corresponding to a pressure variation of the cuff. After that, the data will send some kind of physiological signals to the device to measure the blood pressure. It is being made in such a way by which it can measure the systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure of the patient. The algorithm of this device is configured to estimate the first blood pressure reading of the patient.

  • iPhone 11 managed to get a higher score on DxOMark re-test

iPhone 11 managed to get a higher score on DxOMark re-test

Recently DXOMARK has re-tested the iPhone 11 camera module and interestingly the scores have gone a little bit higher this time. DXOMARK has basically put some change in its testing protocols and it is said to be version four of it. The company has made some improvements in its software to make a higher impact on the testing devices. In terms of the iPhone 11, its overall DXOMARK score has raised up significantly from 109 to 119 points. In this way, iPhone 11 has overtaken some of the flagship segments of 2020, such as the Samsung Samsung Galaxy S20+ and the OnePlus 8 Pro, credit goes to the latest DxOMark’s ranking. For information, the Galaxy S20+ is yet to be tested in the newer protocol.

Now let’s check out the points distribution in different categories in terms of the iPhone 11. However, iPhone 11 has produced a great camera (photos & videos) quality from the start of its business. In terms of picture quality, it offers great exposure, color reproduction is also good, perfect details even indoors, and sharp images if we click using an ultra-wide-angle sensor. As per the DXOMARK, the zoom quality of the iPhone 11 is not that good enough. As iPhone 11 lacks a telephoto lens, that’s why we have to consider the below-average zoom quality.

Coming to the video section, you can record more stabilized videos, credit goes to its effective stabilization. However, if you record indoors, then some effects (jello effect) can throw off the white balance and exposure metering of your video.

  • Tata Sons planning for $1 billion funding to make iPhone manufacturing plant

Tata Sons planning for $1 billion funding to make iPhone manufacturing plant

India has become a hotspot for investment and manufacturing in 2020; almost every brand is affected by the US-China trade war. This opportunity has been grabbed by India, which looks to lure brands to establish manufacturing plants in India and making the country one of the biggest exporter in the globe.

However, the dream requires a huge capital investment and investors are really keen on India’s potential. The biggest manufacturing to be done in India is of iPhones because Apple contractors want to shift a significant part of their existing plants to India.

Now, an interesting story comes out from ET Telecom that says, Tata Sons is seeking up to a whopping $1 billion in overseas loans to set up a globally scalable mobile phone and component contract manufacturing plant in Tamil Nadu.

iPhone SE (2020) or OnePlus 8 who is the winner in India?

This plant initially will start by making iPhone parts and it will be operated by Tata Electronics, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Sons. Initially, it will make iPhone casings and eventually partnering other original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in South Korea and Japan as part of a “larger electronics ecosystem,” as said by one of the sources.

Tata Group is targeting a capital expenditure of whopping $1.5 billion for the priority project via a combination of internal accruals and borrowings. This makes sense as investing in this area will eventually result in a huge profit as Apple iPhones will flourish in India with local manufacturing.

“This offers high growth potential for the group provided the execution is done well and by roping in top management with expertise in this area,” said a group director. “The group is identifying the right CEO to head this venture and also roping in directors from GE.”

  • Which one to choose between Apple iPad 8th Gen 32GB Wi-Fi and 128GB Wi-Fi models?

Which one to choose between Apple iPad 8th Gen 32GB Wi-Fi and 128GB Wi-Fi models?

Apple iPad 8th Gen is the most budget friendly powerful iPad of 2020 with a perfect balance of battery and performance. The iPad 8th Gen is in high demands in India from the time of availability. The 32GB WiFi base version which is priced at ₹29,900 is the hot selling model along with the 128GB WiFi model which is priced at ₹37,900. Both the non-cellular models are very popular now a days so we managed to get hand on both of them and tried to run a comparison on both determining which is better for your use. We are particularly focusing on the WiFi models as the cellular models are just an SIM addition to the WiFi models.

As we all know the specifications of the iPad 8th Gen by now still we are providing some key specifications of the device for better understanding.

    • Gorgeous 10.2-inch Retina display
    • A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine
    • Support for Apple Pencil (1st generation) and Smart Keyboard
    • 8MP back camera, 1.2MP FaceTime HD front camera
    • Stereo speakers
    • 802.11ac Wi-Fi
    • Up to 10 hours of battery life
    • Lightning connector for charging and accessories
    • Touch ID for secure authentication and Apple Pay
    • iPadOS brings new capabilities designed specifically for iPad

    Benchmark Comparison

In a pure tech comparison based on the AnTuTu Benchmark, the iPad 8th Gen with 32GB memory scored healthy 395,976 points, making it one of the fastest budget tablets. Whereas, the 128GB WiFi version scored a whopping 411,270 points claiming itself as one of the powerful tabs in its price segment. The key improvement here is the inclusion of the new 7nm based A12 Bionic chip with Neural Engine, which is a total beast.

    Real-life comarison

As you have seen the benchmark comparison and becomes a mere game of numbers when day-to-day tasks hits. Both the models of the iPad 8th Gen are capable of handling day-to-day tasks like YouTube, Surfing the internet, Social media, and others with ease.

Also, the RAM of the device has been upgraded to 3GB, and this does help when you have a habit of opening quite a lot of apps in the background. A lot of background apps can be kept without disturbing the performance of the iPad and thanks to the A12 Bionic chip it can also handle all the multitasking as well as the split-screen multitasking with ease.

Be a student or any professional, iPad 8th Gen is the best budget tablet to work on. From taking notes to creating illustrations it handles all the tasks seamlessly. The Apple iPencil 1st Gen is the perfect match for this device for doing tasks.

In the case of storage, the 128GB version can provide some more space to move but in the case of 32GB it kind of feels like a restriction, and with the old Lightning port it becomes more restricted to use any other external storage devices with ease. In 128GB you can get enough space to store your apps and movies as well in the device.

    Conclusion

See the full review on the iPad 8th Gen 32GB here. The price difference is just INR 9,000 between 32GB and 128GB models, so if you want to just have it for any daily usage purpose then the 32GB version will be the right choice. But if you want to have an iPad for educational and work purposes then you should go for a 128GB version as it will allow you to have more storage space and you can store your works easily.

  • Apple will pay $113 million to 34 US states for throttling older iPhones

Apple will pay $113 million to 34 US states for throttling older iPhones

Apple is no stranger to facing lawsuits and getting sued. But, it’s rare for you to see the company issuing an apology. The last time it made such a public statement was in 2017. It was when the customers realized that it had been throttling the speed of older iPhones.

The Cupertino-based giant stated it was to protect those phones from aging batteries and then offered a $29 replacements for the showers. But it was slammed by a lawsuit and had to agree to pay $500 million of class action settlement.

Now it seems that the iPhone maker has to pay a second installment. It will have to pay it to 34 US states, and some will be $113 million. The attorney generals of 34 US states have sued Apple for hiding the throttling and battery degradation news from iPhone owners.

They argue that by concealing these issues, Apple wanted to spend a year profiting off of people. iPhone users thought they needed to buy a new iPhone, whereas they only really needed to replace their battery. By doing so, they could easily avoid throttling or unexpected shutdowns.

Of course, Apple has denied that and the settlement news means that the issue won’t be dragged to the court to determine whether there was any actual wrongdoing. The settlement (PDF) is not yet fully approved by a judge, but there’s still a chance that the states might see their money soon.

iPhone users had to apply for their $25 worth of the $500 million class-action settlement, but the process of payment is still underway. A fairness hearing is scheduled on December 4th, which will decide whether the settlement was handled properly or not.
