20th Anniversary iPhone Display: To Feature True Bezel-Less Display with Four-Edge Curved Design

20th anniversary iPhone display: Apple is reportedly gearing up for one of its boldest iPhone redesigns yet, just in time for the 20th anniversary of the iconic device in 2027. According to multiple industry sources, the celebratory iPhone will introduce a completely bezel-less display that curves around all four sides—top, bottom, left, and right—offering a true edge-to-edge visual experience unlike anything seen before on a smartphone.

With a fusion of cutting-edge display technology, new power-efficient components, and radical design philosophy, the 20th anniversary iPhone could mark the biggest leap forward since the iPhone X in 2017.

A Four-Edge Curved Display: Breaking Design Barriers

The new reports, primarily from Korea’s ETNews, describe Apple’s plan to utilize “four-edge bending” OLED technology that allows the screen to flow over all four edges of the device. Unlike current curved-edge phones that taper off on just the sides, Apple’s design vision will see no visible frame or bezel—not even at the top or bottom.

This approach aims to create a completely uninterrupted glass slab, turning the iPhone into a single seamless display surface. According to Bloomberg and The Information, this futuristic display will likely debut on a Pro model in Apple’s 2027 lineup, potentially setting a new gold standard for smartphone design.

What Makes This Possible? Advanced OLED and New Chip Tech

To make this radical form factor a reality, Apple is reportedly developing a next-generation OLED display driver IC (DDI) based on the 16nm FinFET process, replacing the older 28nm planar tech. This shift will bring:

• Greater power efficiency, ideal for slimmer devices
• Improved display responsiveness and brightness
• Support for ultra-thin, all-glass designs

Apple is said to be working closely with Samsung Display and LG Display, its long-time OLED suppliers, to implement this high-precision technology in time for the 2027 launch.

Under-Display Sensors: The End of the Dynamic Island?

Perhaps just as revolutionary as the display itself is Apple’s rumored removal of all visible cutouts, including the Dynamic Island. To achieve a truly all-screen design, Apple is pushing forward with under-display camera and Face ID technology.

• Face ID will reportedly be hidden beneath the display starting with the iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026.
• The front-facing camera may utilize advanced under-display optics, developed by LG Innotek, to preserve image quality while being completely invisible when not in use.

The use of freeform lens arrays will help reduce distortion and maintain brightness—two of the biggest hurdles for cameras placed behind a display.

Engineering Challenges: Can Apple Pull This Off?

While the vision sounds thrilling, the road to a four-edge curved iPhone won’t be easy. Apple will need to overcome several key challenges:

• Structural integrity: Curving the screen on all sides introduces weak points that could increase the risk of damage from drops.
• Sensor placement: Finding new locations or embedding technologies like proximity sensors, speakers, and microphones under the display.
• Touch and palm rejection: Without bezels to anchor your fingers, accidental touches could become more common—unless Apple enhances iOS with smarter gesture recognition and palm-rejection algorithms.

Still, if any company has the resources and engineering expertise to turn this dream into reality, it’s Apple.

A True Design Revolution: Celebrating Two Decades of iPhone

Since its 2007 debut, the iPhone has undergone numerous evolutions—from the Retina display to Face ID, and more recently, Dynamic Island. Yet, the 20th anniversary iPhone could be the most dramatic reinvention yet.

With its all-glass, all-display look, the 2027 iPhone is poised to:

• Eliminate all bezels and cutouts
• Introduce a new era of immersive user interaction
• Showcase Apple’s dominance in hardware design innovation

As the company looks to push forward in AI, battery efficiency, and wearable integration, this next-gen iPhone could become the centerpiece of Apple’s future hardware ecosystem.

If reports are accurate, Apple’s 20th anniversary iPhone will be a landmark product, both in design and technology. The move to a truly bezel-less, curved display on all four sides would not only be a major design statement but also a symbol of Apple’s relentless drive to innovate.

With under-display tech, new OLED drivers, and improved battery efficiency, the 2027 iPhone could truly redefine what we expect from smartphones—and honor two decades of redefining mobile computing.
