T20 World Cup 2022: India defeats Zimbabwe by 71 runs and qualifies for the semifinal

India thrashed Zimbabwe by 71 runs to qualify for the Semifinals against England in the T20 World Cup. India will now prepare to play against England in the second semifinal at the Adelaide Oval on Thursday. Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul scored half centuries and India posted 186/5 in the match. Zimbabwe was all bowled out for 115 in 17.2 overs. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first but couldn’t make more than 15 runs. Ravichandran Ashwin picked three wickets.

India opted to bat first and saw two of its batters, Suryakumar Yadav and KL Rahul scoring half-centuries. Yadav mustered 61 off 25 deliveries that helped India put up a huge total of 186/5. With the performance of R Ashwin, India restricted Zimbabwe to 115 in 17.2 overs. He scalped three wickets. On the other hand, bowlers like Bhuveneshway Kumar and Arshdeep Singh picked a wicket in the first two overs. This proved to be a huge blow for Zimbabwe. Mohammad Shami and Hardik Pandya picked two wickets. For a brief moment, the opponent’s situation seemed to be under control as Ryan Burl and Sikandar Raza showed some control. The former got dismissed at 35 runs by Ashwin. Axar Patel scalped one. Virat Kohli could score only 26 runs off 25 deliveries and Rohit Sharma scored 15 off 13 deliveries. Hardik piled up 18 off 18 while Rishabh Pant scored 3 in 5 balls, while the others were all out. Sean Williams from Zimbabwe picked 2 wickets for 9 in two overs.

Zimbabwe contributed everything it had during the contest, but they were disqualified after losing to the Netherlands earlier in the group round. They defeated Pakistan in Super 12s and they had a spectacular performance in the qualification campaign.
