Korean historical dramas are returning to the battlefield, and Sword & Silence looks ready to lead the charge. New stills show Park Sung Woong as a general who is fearsome in armour and warm in everyday life, and they have fans counting the days until the premiere.

The Story of an Underdog Kingdom

The drama tells how the small kingdom of Silla overcame the stronger states of Goguryeo, Baekje and China’s Tang dynasty to unify the Three Kingdoms. It’s a classic underdog tale, and the stakes are as big as they come. Director Kim Yeong Jo, known for Hwarang: The Poet Warrior Youth, is steering the project.

Park Sung Woong Becomes a Legendary General

Park Sung Woong plays Kim Yu Shin, Silla’s foremost general, who holds the battlefield through countless crises. Off the field, he’s easygoing and comfortable with everyone regardless of rank. Once the armour goes on, he becomes a formidable soldier focused solely on victory. That contrast is the heart of the character, and the actor appears to be relishing it.

What the New Stills Show?

The stills capture both sides of the general. In full armour, he has a steely gaze and unwavering determination. In everyday clothes, he radiates warmth through hearty laughter and a gentle smile. The production team says Park has embodied the dignity and humanity of Kim Yu Shin so completely that it seems as though he has become the character.

A Brotherhood Built on Loyalty

Kim Yu Shin doesn’t carry the mission alone. Alongside Kim Pom Min (Lee Hyun Wook) and Kim Chun Chu (Kim Kang Woo), who are both his family and his political allies, he pursues the monumental task of unification. The three sometimes clash over strategy, but they step up for one another in a crisis and join forces to restore a devastated world. Expect politics, loyalty and a fair amount of sharp debate.
