AI isn’t just for data centres anymore. It’s heading straight into your mobile network — and Supermicro just made sure the infrastructure can actually handle it.

At Mobile World Congress (MWC) Barcelona 2026, Supermicro (NASDAQ: SMCI) unveiled a sweeping expansion of its AI-RAN and Sovereign AI solutions, partnering with Nokia, SK Telecom, and Telenor to bring AI-native intelligence directly into global telecom networks.

What Did Supermicro Announce at MWC 2026?

The announcement centres on two major pillars — AI-RAN (AI-powered Radio Access Networks) and Sovereign AI infrastructure — both backed by NVIDIA’s latest Blackwell GPU architecture.

Partner	What They’re Doing
SK Telecom	Built the “Haein Cluster” — 1,000+ Supermicro AI servers with NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs for GPU-as-a-Service
Nokia	Validated Supermicro’s ARS-111GL-NHR system for its AnyRAN cloud-native suite
Telenor	Launched Norway’s first sovereign AI cloud using Supermicro infrastructure
Viettel High Tech	Deployed a large-scale 5G Open RAN network built on Supermicro hardware

Why AI-RAN Is a Big Deal

Think of AI-RAN as putting a brain inside every mobile tower. Instead of just transmitting signals, these networks now optimise spectrum, save energy, and adapt in real time — automatically. AI-RAN embeds intelligence into the Radio Access Network to optimise spectrum, energy, and performance, while simultaneously creating a distributed network that powers AI solutions for both operators and end users.

Supermicro is rolling out two new systems purpose-built for this:

ARS-111L-FR — A compact 1U system for distributed RAN workloads featuring NVIDIA Grace CPU C1
ARS-221GL-NR — A powerful 2U Grace Superchip system supporting NVIDIA RTX PRO 6000 Blackwell Server Edition GPUs for heavy AI workloads across the network

Both align with NVIDIA’s Aerial RAN Computer (ARC) design, with upcoming support for the new NVIDIA ARC-Pro.

Sovereign AI: Countries Want Their Own AI, Not Amazon’s

Sovereign AI refers to an enterprise’s ability to develop, deploy, and govern artificial intelligence within its own controlled infrastructure, data environments, and compliance frameworks. Basically — your AI, your rules, your country.

SK Telecom’s Haein Cluster is a prime example: over 1,000 Supermicro servers running GPU-as-a-Service entirely within South Korea, supporting national AI initiatives with full data sovereignty.

Super Micro Computer, Inc. is a San Jose-based global IT infrastructure company known for building high-performance, energy-efficient servers for AI, HPC, and cloud workloads.

FAQs

Q: What is AI-RAN and why is Supermicro investing in it?

AI-RAN embeds artificial intelligence directly into mobile radio networks to optimise spectrum use, cut energy consumption, and improve performance — Supermicro is building the specialised server hardware to make this possible at global scale.

Q: What is SK Telecom’s Haein Cluster powered by Supermicro?

The Haein Cluster is South Korea’s sovereign AI infrastructure platform featuring over 1,000 Supermicro AI servers with NVIDIA Blackwell GPUs, offering GPU-as-a-Service for enterprise and national AI projects from SK Telecom’s Gasan AI Data Center.
