Stranger Things First Shadow: Essential Details

What Is The First Shadow About?

Set in 1959 Hawkins, the canon prequel follows teenage Henry Creel as unsettling events grip the town. Younger versions of Joyce, Hopper, and Bob appear alongside the Creel family, directly connecting to Season 5’s Vecna origins—filling plot holes that confused finale viewers.

Why This Netflix Release Matters

Season 5 viewers criticized the finale for plot holes only The First Shadow explained. This professional filming gives global audiences access to essential Hawkins lore previously exclusive to Broadway. Jamie Campbell Bower’s surprise Vecna appearance before Season 5 premiered cemented the play’s canon importance.

Meet the Original Broadway Cast

Louis McCartney (Tony nominee) leads as Henry Creel, joined by T.R. Knight (Victor Creel), Alison Jaye (Joyce), Burke Swanson (Hopper Jr.), Gabrielle Nevaeh (Patty), Alex Breaux (Dr. Brenner), and Rosie Benton (Virginia Creel). A new cast takes over March 29—making this the last capture of the award-winning original company.
