Starfield PS5 Port Announcement Rumored for 2026

Bethesda’s space-faring RPG Starfield won’t be announced for PlayStation 5 this year, according to reliable insider NateTheHate. The well-known leaker, who correctly predicted the Nintendo Switch 2 reveal date and other major gaming news, suggests the port announcement will happen in 2026 unless plans change.

Starfield PS5 Port Announcement Rumored for 2026

The PlayStation 5 version of Starfield has been rumored since the game’s release in 2023, but timing complications continue pushing back the announcement. The game’s second expansion—initially planned for 2025—has been delayed to 2026 to align more closely with the PlayStation release.

Release Timeline & Details

Why the Delay Makes Sense

When asked about Starfield’s future on social media, NateTheHate explained that the expansion content planned for 2025 was delayed, and Microsoft wants the PS5 version close to that release. This strategic alignment gives PlayStation players the complete Starfield experience with all improvements and content updates.

The delayed debut would allow new users to experience Starfield in a much better state, as free updates and the Shattered Space expansion haven’t fully addressed the game’s core issues. By 2026, the game should feature significant quality-of-life improvements, better space exploration mechanics, and more refined gameplay systems.

The Cross-Platform Trend

Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer previously stated he wouldn’t rule out Starfield coming to PS5, fitting into Xbox’s broader multi-platform strategy. Recent Bethesda titles like Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle have already launched on Sony’s console, establishing clear precedent for this move.

The pattern continues with other former Xbox exclusives reaching PlayStation, suggesting Microsoft’s focus on maximizing player reach rather than maintaining console exclusivity. Starfield might also release on Switch 2 in 2026, further expanding its audience beyond Xbox and PC.

What This Means for PS5 Players

PlayStation 5 owners waiting until 2026 will benefit from a more polished experience with expanded content. The second expansion could introduce new gameplay mechanics and story elements that significantly improve upon the base game’s foundation. For those interested in Bethesda’s gaming catalog or tracking upcoming RPG releases, this patient approach might deliver a superior launch.
