Starfield PS5 Release Rumors Grow After PlayStation Logo

Speculation surrounding a potential PlayStation 5 release for Starfield intensified over the weekend after fans spotted a PlayStation logo on Bethesda’s official Creations website. The logo showed up momentarily in work-in-progress ship decals Creation for Starfield, prompting speculation that Bethesda’s former PC and Xbox exclusive sci-fi RPG could be headed toward a release on PS5.

The Creation was subsequently taken down, but fans are still speculating if Bethesda means to align the PS5 release with a significant content update, or even another new expansion. This is a pretty lowkey affair for a game that hasn’t had much excitement over the last several months, especially with how lukewarm the response to the Shattered Space expansion was. Microsoft, which owns Bethesda, is slated to hold one of its summer showcases this year, so it would be the perfect place to announce the future of Starfield.

Bethesda has said in the past that it has “exciting things” in store for Starfield in 2024, but many players have expressed frustration about the lack of updates. The company reaffirmed its focus on the game in June 2024 and said at least one more story expansion was in the works. Howard also added in an interview that his hopes were to do expansions on a yearly basis and support Starfield for years to come.

Starfield, which launched September 2023, was Bethesda’s first new IP in many years and its first single-player RPG since Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media in 2021. Starfield’s release on PS5 had previously been left open by Microsoft gaming head Phil Spencer. Reports from early 2024 suggested both Starfield and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle were under consideration for PS5. While Indy was confirmed for a spring 2025 PS5 release, Starfield remains unannounced.

With Xbox embracing a multiplatform strategy, several first-party games, including Sea of Thieves and Hi-Fi Rush, have already made their way to PlayStation. Rumors suggest Halo could also make the jump, as Microsoft prioritizes revenue growth following its $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
