Starfield: Everything that we know about in 2023

Fans are incredibly excited and anxious to play Starfield because it is predicted to usher in a new era for RPG games. Bethesda is renowned for adding new features to its games, but as gaming technology advances, players’ expectations get increasingly high-strung.

Between Elder Scrolls and Fallout, Bethesda Game Studios’ games have amassed dozens of millions of fans, so the early interest in Starfield is not unexpected. Its name was originally made public when Bethesda registered a trademark for it in September 2013. Todd Howard, the director of the game, would later add that Starfield was the only name that was under consideration.

The universe of Starfield was influenced by the so-called NASA Punk idea, which is Bethesda’s attempt to present a future based on real NASA space missions.

The game takes place in 2330, some 20 years after the Colony War, a significant struggle between the United Colonies and the Freestar Collective. Currently, humans have colonized a region of space that is around fifty light-years from the Solar System. The Settled Systems is the name of the area of space where Starfield is set.

The United Colonies are the most powerful side at the start of the game, both militarily and politically. Their capital city, New Atlantis, is located on the planet Jemison and is a cultural melting pot. The developers of Starfield stated that the metropolis is a true reflection of our world’s future in many aspects. It is the game’s largest city (out of four main cities) and the largest city ever developed by the developers.

The Freestar Collective, a union of three-star systems together because they share a commitment to individualism and personal freedom, is the other dominant force in the Settled Systems. Their nation’s capital, Akila City, has fortified walls to stave off attacks from the Ashta, a hostile alien race that has been compared to a hybrid of wolves and velociraptors.

Starfield has been compared to Skyrim in space, which is perhaps overly simplistic.

It will be playable in both first-person and third-person viewpoints, and it will include Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 staples like lockpicking, pickpocketing, and even the more current settlement (here called outpost) building.

Several gameplay aspects were confirmed to fans during the demo reveal. It has been revealed that space flying will not be seamless between the ground and space, as the creators decided it would be a waste of resources to try to integrate that feature.

When contrasted to the typical twitchy space shooter, space combat in Starfield will be a little slower. When it comes to the power management between weapons, engines, shields, and the Grav Drive that allows you to jump out of sticky situations, Todd Howard claimed that inspiration came from games like MechWarrior.

Thanks to the wide variety of different modules and ship manufacturers, spaceship construction allows for total customization of the appearance and layout. Bethesda displayed a variety of ships at the Starfield Direct presentation, including mech-like and animal-inspired vessels.

More handcrafted content will be included in Starfield than in any prior Bethesda Game Studios product. As of June 2022, it already had 200K lines of discourse. Players will also be able to tell which planets have handcrafted stuff and which rely primarily or entirely on procedural generation.

The gameplay event includes the first look at Starfield’s character creation system, which is the most customizable yet in a Bethesda game. The developers scanned many genuine people of various ethnicities, allowing them to build a wide range of complex and unique characters.

The developers have already revealed the official PC system requirements and you’ll need 125 GB of storage space and an SSD to play Starfield.
