CRY0
Pedro Pascal may be Hollywood’s favourite right now, but back in India, the galaxy far, far away just doesn’t pull crowds. Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu has had a rough landing at the Indian box office, collecting a modest Rs 3.40 crore gross over its opening three-day weekend — and things don’t look like they’ll improve from here.
Star Wars: The Mandalorian & Grogu India Box Office: Day-Wise Breakdown
| Day | Collection |
|---|---|
| Day 1 (Friday) | Rs 0.80 crore |
| Day 2 (Saturday) | Rs 1.30 crore |
| Day 3 (Sunday) | Rs 1.30 crore |
| Opening Weekend Total | Rs 3.40 crore |
Why Is Star Wars Struggling in India?
The numbers tell a familiar story. Star Wars has always been a predominantly Western franchise phenomenon. Barring Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which did somewhat decent business back in 2015, none of the franchise’s films have managed even a reasonable run in India. The series had a massive global market and popularity earlier, but that era has largely passed.
Even Pedro Pascal’s star power — riding high after global hits — wasn’t enough to change that equation here. His previous sci-fi outing, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, had a relatively better opening weekend in India, largely driven by Marvel’s brand recognition. Star Wars doesn’t carry that same connect with Indian multiplex audiences.
Hit or Flop Verdict?
The movie is expected to wind up its entire theatrical run on a low note, heading for a flop verdict at the Indian box office. With weekday collections almost certain to drop significantly, even reaching Rs 5–6 crore total seems optimistic at this point.

The Bigger Picture
This isn’t just a one-film problem. It reflects a long-standing reality — Indian audiences have never really warmed up to the Star Wars universe the way Western markets have. Without a strong dubbed release strategy, pre-built franchise fandom, or mass-appeal storytelling tailored for Indian tastes, even the biggest Hollywood names can struggle to cross the Rs 10 crore mark here.
The Mandalorian and Grogu had Baby Yoda nostalgia, a beloved TV universe, and Pedro Pascal. In India, that still wasn’t enough.
