Spider-Noir barely lasted one season, but Sony and Amazon aren’t giving up on Spider-Man television — they’re just being a lot more careful with the checkbook this time.

Nicolas Cage’s 1930s noir spin-off premiered in May, earned five Creative Arts Emmys, and was still canceled within months. According to The Ankler, the reported culprit was cost: rumors put the show’s budget as high as $400 million, making it one of the most expensive television series ever made.

What’s Next for Spider-Man on TV

The Ankler reports Sony Television and Amazon Prime Video are developing four new Spider-Man-adjacent projects, with plans to move forward on at least one or two.

Plot details are still under wraps, but given the Spider-Verse license terms and past reporting, expect the focus to land on multiverse variants like Spider-Gwen, Spider-Man 2099, or Spider-Woman rather than Peter Parker or Miles Morales, who are likely reserved for film.

The Bigger Spider-Man TV Landscape

Sony isn’t the only player here. Marvel Animation continues expanding its side of the web-slinger’s universe: Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man Season 2 arrives January 2027, with Season 3 already greenlit, while Spidey and His Amazing Friends has been renewed through Season 7. Meanwhile, Marvel Studios and Sony remain reportedly at a standstill over bringing a live-action Spider-Man series to Disney+, leaving Amazon as the primary home for grounded, mature Spider-Man television for now.

FAQs

1. Why was Spider-Noir canceled after just one season?

Reports point to its high production cost — estimated as high as $400 million — as the primary reason Amazon Prime Video decided not to renew it, despite strong critical reception and award wins.

2. Will future Spider-Man shows feature Peter Parker or Miles Morales?

It’s unlikely. Reports suggest Sony and Amazon’s new projects will likely center on Spider-Verse variants like Spider-Gwen or Spider-Man 2099, keeping the mainline characters reserved for theatrical films. Spider-Noir remains available to stream on Prime Video, with new Spider-Man projects still in early development.
