The Opening Montage: Who Spider-Man Fights

The clip shows Peter clashing with six villains, a nod to classic comic covers. It also highlights how busy he has been in New York since No Way Home.

Surprises and Misdirection

Many fans expected a much bigger role for Tombstone, so a few seconds on screen was a shock. A theory that M.J.’s new boyfriend would be revealed as Boomerang didn’t pan out either, as neither character got enough screen time for a twist. The main villain duties actually fell to Tramell Tillman’s Damage Control boss William Metzger and, to a lesser extent, Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey. The Hand later became the basis for the film’s third-act battle after Hulk.

Will These Villains Return?

The Direct thinks Boomerang, Tarantula and Ramrod are too obscure to come back. Alistair Smythe could be the hidden link behind them, though that is pure speculation. Tombstone is a different story, with a rumoured “overarching” role in the next Spider-Man trilogy. That could set up a New York turf war involving Kingpin, Silvermane and Hammerhead, with Scorpion possibly joining. The Hand has also been reported for Daredevil: Born Again Season 3, so Matt Murdock may have to deal with them next.

Where to Watch Spider-Man Brand New Day?

The film is available to buy digitally and will move to Netflix soon, though the clip’s source gives no exact streaming date.
