Some good news is finally landing for American PlayStation gamers. Sony has agreed to a $7.8 million class-action settlement tied to digital game purchases made through the PlayStation Store, following claims that its store policies limited fair pricing competition for consumers.

What the Lawsuit Was About

The case argued that Sony’s control over PlayStation Store transactions effectively shut out competitors, restricting consumers’ ability to shop around for better prices on certain digital games. Similar lawsuits have since been filed in the UK, Netherlands, Portugal and Mexico, challenging Sony’s grip on digital game sales more broadly.

How to Actually Get Paid

There’s no need to file a claim form. If you qualify and did not formally opt out of the settlement before the court’s deadline, compensation will be processed automatically and credited straight to your PSN wallet rather than as a cash payout. The exact payout amount hasn’t been finalized yet, since it depends on total eligible claimants once the settlement receives final court approval.
