On a night that was meant to celebrate music, Sonu Nigam, one of India’s most beloved playback singers, found himself at the center of a storm in Bengaluru. During a recent concert, a fan’s request for a Kannada song led to a heated exchange.

Sonu Nigam, feeling threatened by a group of fans, compared the situation to a terror attack, referencing the Pahalgam incident. This comparison quickly went viral, sparking outrage across Karnataka and beyond.

Sonu Nigam’s Response: From Justification to Apology

Initially, Sonu Nigam defended his reaction, stating on social media that he was “entitled to take offence” and that he would not tolerate humiliation, especially in front of thousands. He explained that he felt threatened by “4-5 thugs” who demanded he sing in Kannada, even though Kannada is a language he deeply respects and has sung in throughout his career.

However, as the backlash grew, Sonu Nigam took to social media again, this time with a heartfelt apology:

“Sorry Karnataka. My love for you is bigger than my ego. Love you always.”

Industry Reaction: Will Sonu Nigam Be Banned?

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) responded swiftly, announcing that Sonu Nigam would not be invited to any Kannada film-related events for the time being. They also requested the police commissioner not to permit any Sonu Nigam concerts in Bengaluru. While this is not an official ban, the industry is set to meet and discuss the future of Sonu Nigam’s association with Kannada cinema.
