Small Film, Big Win — Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam Crosses Rs 22 Crore Worldwide in Just 10 Days!

Malayalam cinema keeps proving that you don’t need a massive budget to win audiences over. Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam, the dark comedy sequel starring Saiju Kurup and Suraj Venjaramoodu, has quietly emerged as one of 2026’s feel-good box office success stories — and the numbers speak for themselves.

Bharathanatyam 2 Box Office Breakdown

The film has grossed over Rs 21.70 crore worldwide in its first 10 days of theatrical run, with approximately Rs 12.30 crore coming from Kerala alone. What makes this even more impressive? It achieved a Clean Hit verdict while going head-to-head with Vaazha 2, which is currently dominating the Kerala box office. Beating the competition as a smaller film? That’s no small feat.

The overseas performance has been equally solid, with the Middle East leading the international charge at over USD 630K.

What Is the Film About?

Bharathanatyam 2 Mohiniyattam is a sequel to the 2025 Malayalam hit Bharathanatyam. It follows the character Sasidharan Nair as his family travels to Sreekandapuram to sort out matters related to his late father’s second family, leading to a series of criminal, scandalous, and high-tension situations.

This is the kind of dark comedy that Malayalam cinema has mastered — balancing humour, tension, and family drama in a way that feels completely grounded and real.

The Cast Powering This Hit

The film stars Saiju Kurup — in what marks his 150th film — alongside Suraj Venjaramoodu, Jagadish, Baby Jean, Vinay Forrt, Kala Ranjini, Sruthy Suresh, Abhiram Radhakrishnan, and Sreeja Ravi in key roles. A milestone 150th film turning into a HIT? Saiju Kurup couldn’t have scripted it better.

Is a Super Hit on the Cards?

If the film maintains its current momentum over the coming weeks, it is well on its way to earning a Super Hit verdict — which would be a remarkable achievement for a low-budget production competing in a market dominated by big-ticket releases. The trajectory is encouraging, and Malayalam audiences have clearly embraced the sequel warmly.
