Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1 has given Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar a much-needed resurgence. The film opened with an impressive ₹11.25 crore (net) on its first day, marking a stark contrast to his recent box office struggles.

Directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani, the movie’s patriotic theme and discounted ticket prices played a pivotal role in drawing audiences back to theaters.

Double-Digit Opening Amid Low Ticket Pricing

The Republic Day release of Sky Force utilized an unconventional strategy of significantly reduced ticket prices, which boosted attendance. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film saw an overall occupancy of 15.71% across 4,900 shows in India. Morning shows recorded a modest 10.26% occupancy, which surged to 22.76% by the evening, showcasing its growing appeal.

IMAX 2D screenings also contributed, recording 14.82% occupancy. With the buzz surrounding the patriotic narrative, the Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1 surpassed the openings of Akshay’s previous releases like Khel Khel Mein (₹5.05 crore) and Sarfira (₹2.5 crore).

Veer Pahariya Shines in His Debut

Sky Force marks the Bollywood debut of Veer Pahariya, whose performance has drawn widespread praise. The film’s storyline, centered on India’s counterattack during the Indo-Pakistani air war of 1965, resonates deeply with audiences.

Co-starring Nimrat Kaur and Sara Ali Khan, the movie has impressed cine-goers, with many taking to social media to applaud Akshay Kumar’s stellar portrayal of a heroic pilot.

Budget Battle: Sky Force vs Fighter

The Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1 has inevitably invited comparisons with Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone’s Fighter. While Fighter opened at ₹22.5 crore, its production budget of ₹250 crore was significantly higher than Sky Force’s ₹160 crore.

Despite its smaller scale, Sky Force has established itself as a strong contender in the patriotic-action genre, promising growth over the weekend.

Weekend Predictions and Akshay Kumar’s Career Trajectory

The Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1 is only the beginning, as collections are expected to rise over the Republic Day weekend. With discounted prices continuing, Saturday and Sunday could see significant footfalls.

For Akshay Kumar, this success comes after a series of underperforming films, including Selfiee, Mission Raniganj, and Raksha Bandhan. His last major hit, Sooryavanshi (2021), grossed ₹293 crore globally, but subsequent releases failed to replicate that success. However, Sky Force offers hope for the revival of his solo box office appeal.

Sky Force Box Office Collection Day 1 has set a promising tone for Akshay Kumar’s 2024 slate. With a gripping storyline, Veer Pahariya’s commendable debut, and positive audience reception, the film is likely to soar higher in the coming days. As the buzz intensifies, this aviation drama could become a much-needed blockbuster for Bollywood’s Khiladi.
