Sitaare Zameen Par is heading to Sony LIV once its theatrical run ends. Aamir Khan’s latest project marks another major addition to the streaming platform’s growing library, bringing a significant Bollywood release straight to your home. Here’s what you need to know about when and how you’ll be able to watch it.

When Does Sitaare Zameen Par Hit Sony LIV?

Sony LIV has locked down the exclusive streaming rights for Sitaare Zameen Par. The film will premiere on the platform after its theatrical window closes, though an exact date hasn’t been announced yet. Based on how things typically work in the industry, expect the transition about 45-60 days after the theatrical release. Aamir Khan’s involvement means the film will likely get an extended cinema run—his movies traditionally stay in theaters longer to maximize box office earnings before heading to streaming.

The timing’s important here. Sony LIV has been aggressively hunting major Bollywood releases to compete with Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, and Sitaare Zameen Par fits perfectly into that strategy. Khan’s fanbase watches both in theaters and on streaming, which means the studio gets to profit from both channels.

What Makes This Release Special

Sitaare Zameen Par shows how A-list actors are changing their approach to streaming. Instead of seeing OTT as a backup plan, the filmmakers positioned this as a major theatrical release with a guaranteed streaming home waiting. This two-pronged strategy has become standard since the pandemic shifted how people watch movies.

The film’s genre and story work well for both multiplex crowds and home viewers. Sony LIV’s subscriber base—especially strong in smaller cities and towns—reaches audiences where theatrical options are limited. For people who’ve cut the cord and prefer streaming, this OTT premiere is a big deal (according to VentureBeat AI).

Sony LIV also offers features that theaters can’t match. You’ll get multiple language options, the ability to adjust video quality based on your internet speed, and you can pause and pick up where you left off on different devices (as reported by OpenAI Blog).

The Streaming Strategy Behind this

Sony LIV’s acquisition of the technology reflects a bigger shift toward consolidating premium content. The platform has spent serious money securing day-and-date releases and exclusive premieres, going head-to-head with best comedy streaming options that grab viewer attention.

Aamir Khan’s past streaming projects have driven strong engagement. The tool will likely do the same, pulling in new subscribers and keeping people signed up during launch week. Sony LIV’s marketing team—handling social media pushes, celebrity interviews, and curated playlists—will spread the word way beyond what traditional movie promotions could reach.

This release proves that this approach isn’t just about one film. It’s a calculated move to make money across every possible distribution channel. Sony LIV gets exclusive content. You get convenience. Everyone comes out ahead.
