A theater warning shouldn’t be this exciting. Yet Marvel’s new “Silence Your Phones” PSA for Avengers: Doomsday has fans pausing frame by frame, hunting for hidden story hints in who sits next to whom.
Quick Snapshot
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Promo | “Silence Your Phones” theater PSA |
| Length | 31 seconds |
| Plays before | Avengers: Endgame Encore screenings |
| Film release | December 18 (US) |
| Cast | 27 confirmed actors, 34 reported and unannounced |
| Main trio | Robert Downey Jr. (Doctor Doom), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Chris Hemsworth (Thor) |
What Happens in the Spot?
It opens with a Doomsday clip showing Doctor Doom in a storm-swept wasteland, ordering the X-Men’s Sentinels to rise. It then cuts to a packed theater where cast members sit in costume, reacting to the screen.
Who Appears?
The ad features Thor, Shang-Chi, Yelena, Cyclops, Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Namor, Red Guardian and Shuri. Also in the crowd are Bucky Barnes, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Gambit, Mystique and Ghost, plus a Falcon, according to The Direct’s list.
The Clues Fans Are Spotting
Note that these are The Direct’s interpretations, not Marvel’s confirmations.
| Observation | Possible meaning |
|---|---|
| Red Guardian sits between Sam Wilson and Bucky | Lingering tension over which Avengers team is legitimate, with Red Guardian as mediator |
| Reed, Sue and Namor sit in a loose triangle | A nod to the comics’ Namor and Sue Storm tension as a possible B-story |
| Yelena is the one shushing everyone | Perhaps a hint at a leadership role |
Who’s Missing?
The PSA leaves out Steve Rogers, Professor X, Magneto, Beast, Nightcrawler, Scott Lang, Loki, Human Torch, Thing and Bob. The Direct notes that this may simply be a casting choice for the ad, but it could also hint at smaller roles for some. Steve Rogers is already confirmed for a significant part in the film.
The Bigger Picture
Marketing has been in overdrive since the July trailer, boosted by three post-credits scenes in Endgame Encore that tease the crossover’s story. The Russo Brothers’ film brings the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Avengers together against Doom’s multiversal threat.
