Selena Gomez’s ‘X-Rated’ Cannes Film With Cate Blanchett Is the Most Talked-About Movie of 2026

Fresh off her Best Actress win at Cannes for Emilia Pérez, Selena Gomez isn’t slowing down. She’s already signed onto her most daring project yet — an untitled, genre-defying epic alongside Oscar giants Cate Blanchett and Michael Fassbender, directed by Brady Corbet (The Brutalist, Vox Lux).

And yes, Corbet himself has described it as “X-rated.”

Why Everyone at Cannes Is Talking About This?

Brady Corbet doesn’t do small. His last film, The Brutalist, was based on a 165-page script and ran over three hours — and it swept awards season. His next screenplay is already 200 pages long, hinting at another mammoth cinematic experience.

Shooting on rare eight-perf 65mm cameras signals this is being crafted as a visual spectacle of the highest order. Add Blanchett’s Cannes masterclass reveal, Gomez’s star power, and Fassbender’s return to major cinema — and you have one of the most anticipated films in years.

Selena Gomez’s Stunning Transformation Into a Serious Actor?

This isn’t a vanity project. Gomez has methodically built toward this moment — from Spring Breakers to Emilia Pérez, where she shared the stage with Zoe Saldaña and earned Cannes’ top acting prize. She’s now operating in the same orbit as the industry’s most respected talents.
