Why Doomsday Missed Out?
Avengers: Doomsday was first dated for May 2026. Disney later moved it to December 18, and by then Warner Bros. had locked up IMAX screens for Dune: Part Three across the holiday window. Disney’s answer was “Infinity Vision,” which is really a premium-screen label rather than a brand-new format.
IMAX CEO Rich Gelfond recently said on The Town podcast that he doesn’t view this as a threat. He also reconfirmed that Secret Wars is coming to IMAX.

Small twist: Warner Bros.’ IMAX deal covers three weeks. Doomsday could still land IMAX screens in week four, just as Spider-Man: Brand New Day did after its rival’s exclusivity ended.
Can Secret Wars Beat Endgame?
Probably not, at least for now. Brand New Day has reached $2.23 billion worldwide and broke Endgame‘s domestic opening record with $360 million. It is still expected to fall short of Endgame‘s $2.79 billion total.
Still, Secret Wars has real advantages:
- It closes out an entire saga, just like Endgame.
- The Russos call it a new beginning as much as an ending.
- Marvel is moving away from multiverse stories from 2028, so cameos from 25+ years of superhero films are possible.
