Schalke vs Real Madrid: Overview

Match Preview

This friendly caps off a busy preseason schedule for Real Madrid, who have already faced Alcorcón, Leganés, Fiorentina, Ferencváros, and Deportivo La Coruña in the Teresa Herrera Trophy. For José Mourinho, this is his last chance to fine-tune tactics and assess squad fitness before La Liga action begins. Real Madrid previously played two competitive matches at the Veltins-Arena — both Champions League Round of 16 first legs — winning both, including a 2-0 victory in their most recent visit over a decade ago.

For Schalke, this blockbuster friendly serves as their final warm-up before a DFB-Pokal first-round tie against Regionalliga side Hallescher FC. The two clubs have met four times in the UEFA Champions League, with Real Madrid holding a dominant record, including a 9-2 aggregate win in the 2013/14 last-16 tie.

Prediction

Given Real Madrid’s squad depth and Champions League pedigree at this venue, expect Los Blancos to field a strong lineup and control large portions of the match, though preseason friendlies often see heavy rotation. A comfortable Real Madrid win looks the likely outcome, but Schalke will be motivated to give their fans a strong show in front of a sold-out crowd.

How to Watch
