Samsung Galaxy S24 models rumored to come with 144Hz refresh rate

All Galaxy S23 models that were released earlier this year had refresh rates capped at 120Hz, and this value was suitable for a device that will be in your pocket or hand. The launch of the Galaxy S24, however, is said to see an increase in that number from Samsung. Sam Lover reported the rumour, which states that Samsung will raise the highest supported refresh rate to 144Hz. Unless Samsung has discovered a way to raise the touch sample rate of all Galaxy S24 models, upgrading from a 120Hz display to a 144Hz one will offer little to no benefit when it comes to smoother scrolling.

The touch sample rate is distinct from the refresh rate, but it essentially indicates how responsive your smartphone will be to touch inputs. The rumour does not specify whether this upgrade will be available on all Galaxy S24 models, which are rumoured to launch in 2019, but Revegnus may have a better idea of what will be available in 2024.

The tipster stated in a deleted tweet that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will have a 144Hz display, but he or she did not specify whether the less expensive models will also have this feature.

Only the Galaxy S23 Ultra has an LTPO panel with a refresh rate that can be reduced to as little as 1Hz to conserve battery. In contrast, the refresh rate on the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus ranges from 48 to 120 Hz. If there was an improvement we would like to see, it would be the cheaper Galaxy S24 models switching to LTPO screens, which would allow them to occasionally lower their refresh rate to 1Hz.

Unfortunately, since it costs a lot to produce LTPO displays in large quantities, Samsung might have to raise the price of these phones as a result of this move. Apple’s iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are expected to ship with Samsung’s M13 displays in the fourth quarter of 2023, improving both devices’ power efficiency.
